Private Sessions
A typical Private session is roughly 80% reformer and mat work, and 20% systems. The “systems” are exercises on the other apparatus. They are tailored for your body’s needs on that day. This type of workout is well rounded, and is ideal when a client comes in regularly once or twice a week or is just starting. When a person is able to come in more frequently or has reached a certain level there is so much we can do to vary your workouts. Pilates is a system of over 600 exercises! You should never get bored.
Semi-Private Sessions
At Reform, we LOVE Semi-Privates! Having two or three people in the lesson gives more energy to the session, and it can be a really fun way to workout! Often we find that the people in a Semi-Private learn a lot from their partner as well. Seeing another person do an exercise you have struggled with can sometimes be an “Ah-ha! Moment.” In addition, Semi-Private sessions are a more cost-effective way to get your Pilates in with almost the same personal attention you would get in a private session.
Can I do a semi-private session with my friend or significant other?
Sure, you could try a session with a friend or your husband or wife. We know this can be a fun way for you to spend time together, and we are happy to try a session with you and the partner of your choice. Please keep in mind however, that there is a good chance that you will not be a good match for a semi-private because you have different bodies and need different things. You may learn at a different pace or in different ways, have varied levels of experience with Pilates, or have injuries or limitations that may hold the other person back.
If you are interested in a Semi-Private session, we are happy to try to match you up with a partner that is around your level, with similar needs. If you are brand new to Pilates or our studio we suggest taking at least 10 private sessions before trying a semi-private. This gives our instructors a chance to become familiar with your body and what it needs, and it will give you a basic level or understanding with the Pilates apparatus, Basic Pilates exercises, and HOW you are trying to work in Pilates. Even if you are a very fit person, Pilates is a different way of working than many other types of exercise. This subtlety is very important to understand, and can get lost in a Semi-Private that is not a good match as one partner often worries about holding the other back with stops for corrections and can become frustrated in an attempt to “keep up” without feeling they are “doing it right.”
We now offer “Trio” sessions (3 clients and one instructor) in addition to “Duet” sessions (2 clients and one instructor).
Tower Classes
Tower Classes combine the Pilates mat work with apparatus in a small group setting. We use arm springs, leg springs, the roll back bar and push through bar throughout the mat workout. Tower class is a great addition to private sessions or mat classes to supplement your weekly workouts!
If you are a new client to our studio we require that you take at least one private session (but would suggest 5-10) before attending a Tower Class, because we do not want the class to be held back and most importantly we do not want anyone to get injured. And we feel it is important for us to see where your body is at when we are able to give you 100% of our attention. Reservations are required for Tower Classes as they are limited to 4 people. 24 hour cancellation policy does apply.
Mat Classes
We love having mat classes at the studio! Pilates is a system of exercises on the mat and apparatus and one truly complements the other. We know that the more Pilates you do, the better!
And we think mat class is a great way to add a workout to your weekly routine without spending a lot of extra money. We keep our mat classes small, but because you will never have 100% of an instructor’s attention in a group setting, it is highly recommended that someone new to Pilates or new to a Pilates studio setting take 5-10 private sessions before joining an ongoing mat class.
